Tile and Stone Underlayment

Lightweight Uncoupling Membrane

Jaeger USA’s Uncoupling Membrane provides reliable waterproofing in interior applications.

Its polyethylene composition protects the substrate from moisture penetration, which is particularly important in today’s building environment where most substrates are moisture-sensitive. Specifically designed for ceramic and stone tile installations. Jaeger USA’s uncoupling membranes are specifically designed for ceramic and stone tile installations. Membrane specifically provides uncoupling to prevent cracked tile and grout.

Vapor management is the distinguishing feature of Jaeger USA’s Uncoupling Membrane. The existence of free space is created by the configured channels on the underside of the matting. The free space provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to escape away from the substrate. Excessive moisture will otherwise cause damage to the tile layer above. This is how the uncoupling membrane effectively manages moisture beneath the tile covering.

The uncoupling membrane separates; it un-couples, or isolates, the substrate from the tile and allows the tile and the substrate to move independently of each other so that movement in the substrate doesn't cause the ceramic, stone, or porcelain tile to crack.

Jaeger USA’s uncoupling membranes provide uncoupling to prevent cracked tile and grout.

Made of polyethylene, Jaeger USA’s Uncoupling Membrane serves as a waterproofing layer that protects moisture-sensitive substrates, such as plywood/OSB.

Uncoupling Membrane is a key component of the building envelope

Uncoupling creates a waterproof layer to protect the substrate and prevent moisture from infiltrating the surfaces below. It can be installed over a variety of subfloors including concrete, plywood, OSB, and radiant heated floors.

Uncoupling Membrane Installation Instructions

The substrate must be clean, even, and load-bearing. Any leveling of the subfloor must be done prior to installation.

Using a thin-set mortar that is suitable for the substrate, apply the thin-set mortar (mixed to a fairly fluid consistency, but still able to hold a notch).

Apply uncoupling membrane to the floor, fleece side down. Solidly embed the matting into the bonding mortar using a float, screed trowel, or a roller.

Lift up a corner of the matting to check coverage. Proper installation results in full contact between the fleece webbing and the thin-set mortar. Simply abut end and side sections of adjacent sheets.

Note: Coverage may vary with mortar consistency, the angle at which the trowel is held, substrate flatness, etc. If full coverage is not achieved, remove and reapply, making sure to verify proper mortar consistency and application.
